Teaching Tip: Speak to the Physical First

Want to be more effective and powerful in your teaching? Be purposeful in creating a dynamic physical experience first for your students.

When teaching any pose, speak to the physical qualities first. Use clear and simple language to give your students access to the pose in their bodies. Cue foundation, structure, alignment, activation, and breath. When you give students a deeply physical experience, you help create a pathway out of their minds and into their bodies. Guide your students to greater sensation. With embodied experience and muscle memory, they can connect the dots from their experience on the mat to what is possible in their own lives. A physical experience makes the possibilities real, rather than just concepts or yoga philosophy. Your guidance can empower your students to feel the physical benefits and greater possibility in each pose, right now.
